Hair Oiling: A Weekly Ayurvedic Ritual for Scalp and Stress
A traditional Ayurvedic practice to strengthen the hair, calm the nervous system, and support long-term wellness.
What It Is
Hair oiling in Ayurveda is more than a beauty practice. It’s a way to nourish the scalp, relax the mind, and bring regular care to the nervous system through touch. Most commonly done once or twice a week, this ritual uses herbal oils applied to the scalp and hair, followed by gentle massage.
How to Do It
Warm 1–2 tablespoons of oil (like Bhringraj or Brahmi oil).
Apply to the scalp using your fingertips. Use small circular motions to massage gently but thoroughly.
Leave it on for at least 30 minutes. You can also leave it overnight with a towel on your pillow.
Wash it out with a gentle, natural shampoo.
When to Do It
Best time: Evening, once or twice per week
Tip: Avoid on very cold, damp days unless you can stay warm afterward
Adjustments by Dosha
Vata: Use warming, rich oils like sesame or almond; leave on longer
